About BIW Counseling

Personal Philosophy

Psychotherapy is not easily described in general statements, yet it does work for many. I prefer using interpersonal approaches to therapy with individuals, couples and families. My reason for doing this work is grounded in the belief that healing is possible. I love nothing more than witnessing healing happen in my clients and myself. It is possible to regain your sense of self, sense of others, sense of safety and a sense of belonging. You belong.

I utilize Internal Family Systems, (IFS), as my primary treatment method with clients and myself to do deep personal work. I have found IFS to be an effective evidence-based treatment that helps people heal from the impact of exposure to trauma(s). I am engaged in ongoing professional training activities including completion of IFS Level 1, Level 2, Program Assistant for Level 1, IFS continuing education training, and consultation with IFS providers.

Psychotherapy has benefits and drawbacks. It requires a commitment of time, financial resources and facing areas of vulnerability. In my experience, clients who show up and are willing to explore deeper aspects of their life and experiment with new tools of changes between sessions, do better in a shorter period. There are no guarantees, however, most clients feel better about their life and relationships as a result of interpersonal therapy. I love what I do and truly believe that healing is possible.
